Day Nineteen
Try Me….

Malachi 3:10 NKJV

[10] Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.

When I was a child, I heard this scripture every Sunday.

It was always read when it was time to take up the weekly collection; tithes and offerings. I remembered being annoyed all the time because i didn’t understand what the storehouse was and I looked up at the sky all the time, and I had never seen any windows; open or closed. Also I didn’t understand how God was going to pour out a BMX bike, Santa Cruz skateboard and a new drum set down from heaven. Wouldn’t all of my blessings be broken into little pieces by the time they got to me? I know it may sound comical but that was how my 6 year old mind processed that scripture. As I’ve grown over the years, I now understand that the storehouse is the local church. I now understand that the windows of heaven are not in the sky, but God uses people as his windows. He blesses people to bless us and He blesses us to bless people (Luke 6:38).

But one thing that never caught my attention until I was much older war the fact that God offers us a challenge in this text. He says: “Try me”; one version says “prove me now herewith”. Did you know that this is the only time in scripture that God says we can test Him? He challenges us to take Him at His word and allow Him to prove Himself to us. WOW!! You mean to tell me that the God of all creation is saying that we can test Him? Then He backs it up with a guarantee and says: “Try me and see if I won’t open up the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing”.

My personal testimony is that every since I’ve come to understand the principles of giving, and being generous to my local church and to people around me, God has never failed me once. Our God keeps all of His promises..

Allow me to prophesy some things over your life:

I declare that you will live in the tent of generosity.

And because of your generous spirit, God is lining up for you, His good treasure and will cause it to rain in your land but in His season and in His timing. He will make you the lender and not the borrower so that you will bless more people than you’ll ever meet. You family is blessed, your children are blessed, your relationships and marriages are blessed in the might name Jesus.

   Amen
