Day One – CWC First Fruits Devotional

Our God is Pre-eminent….

Genesis 4:3-5 NKJV
[3] And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. [4] Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, [5] but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell.

Most people wether they are believers or not have more than likely heard the story of Cain and Abel. It is the first story in history of sibling rivalry but ended in the tragic death of a Adam and Eve’s son Abel. What happened?

Cain was full of rage mixed with envy because God accepted Abel’s offering but rejected his. You can imagine how Cain must’ve felt because after all, he was the eldest son and he gave his offering first. But there was a serious issue with his offering. The scripture says that in “the process of time”, Cain gave an offering. In other words, instead of putting God first and giving the first fruit of his harvest. Instead Cain put God through a process. He made God wait for the crops to come in and then gave God an offering.

Abel, who is a rancher, did the exact opposite of his brother. The scriptures say: “Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat.“ Abel gave God his first. So it wasn’t that God didn’t accept Cains offering, it was that He couldn’t accept Cain’s offering because it was not his best; it was not his first. God does not know how to be second; He can never be number two. God is always to be put first, above all, before all for He is Lord of all.

Let’s pray….

Father we say thank you for being our guiding light. Thank You for being first; You first loved us even while we were yet sinners. You chose us first and now in return we choose You first. We place You before and above everything else in our lives. Lord we acknowledge Your preeminence in our lives, our homes, our church and in the world.

Thank You for being such a great father. Amen…

  2. Day 1 complete, inspired and ready for a new mindset towards worship. As a creative, it’s challenging to not want to create something grand to show your praise. But God just wants to be our first thought, first word, that first gratitude in our hearts before we begin the day.
