Day Six – CWC First Fruits Devotional

Day Six

Imago Dei…

Genesis 1:27-28 NKJV

[27] So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. [28] Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Have you ever wondered what God looks like? Some scholars say, if you want to know what God looks like, look in the mirror. But we should consider that the Word of God says in John 4:24

[24] God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Then also over in 2 Corinthians 3:17 it also says:

[17] Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

To my knowledge, spirits are invisible; do we know anyone who has physically seen God? John 1:18 says: “No man hath seen God at any time.”  But there is also another piece to this puzzle. Verse 28 of Genesis 1 describes the attributes that we are endowed with as a result of being made in his image; Fruitfulness, the ability to multiply and fill the earth, the power to subdue the earth that we fill and the wisdom to reign over and have dominion or dominate many of the things that God created. This implies that perhaps the imago dei or the image referred to in the scripture is not merely physical. But God imparted to us the ability to shape and  create using the raw materials that He’s already provided.

For example, God doesn’t need to make a table, chair or night stand or hardwood floors; He just made a tree. What we make out of the tree will always bare his image because He made the tree, He made us, and gave us our creativity. Think of it like this; whatever we imagine that is positive originates from God. Everything that God created has the ability to create. So if it doesn’t create or is not at all creative, it’s not from God.

Let’s pray….

Thank you Lord for branding us with your image and sharing with us a small portion of your ability to create.

We pray that all  we create brings glory and honor to your name…

  Amen..
