Day Eight
If you love…
John 3:16 KJV [16]
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
I would venture to say that right behind Psalm 23, John 3:16 may be the second most quoted scripture of all time. This scripture has it all; hope, salvation, love, generosity, loyalty and promise. But every once in a while I look at this text and I see failure; failure in myself. I read this text and I realize that everyday, I fail to love like this. To love so much that I would give, not just my last, but my only; I have not achieved this level of compassion. Some of us have trouble giving away the last $20 bill in your pocket let alone your only son. But what I love about it is while we all may never achieve God’s capacity for compassion, we can still show that we love by how we give. There is a hidden principle tucked inside of this text. Look at the first nine words. “For God so loved the world, that He gave.” These first nine words of John 3:16 imply that if you love then you’ll give. It also implies that we love to the degree that we are willing to give. We also give to the degree in which we love. In other words, if I’m not willing to give to you, do I really love you? I know when we think of the word “give” we think about money, which is good but there is so much more to give than just money.
Heart, Soul, Time, Resources and loyalty, these are some of the ways we can give. For God so loved the world that He gave. I just want to be like father.
Let’s pray…. Father, we thank You for Your love and Your investment in us. Our only hope is that we live our lives through our faith, and please You in the process. Amen
Amen! Time, resources, love, a listening ear.
Give!!!
Amen
Great reflection! Thanks for sharing.
