DAY Sixteen – CWC FIRST FRUITS DEVOTIONAL

Day Sixteen

Love kinda sums it all up….

Romans 13:8-10 NKJV

[8] Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. [9] For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” [10] Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

I have many thoughts about this text but before I begin writing, as a habit of research, I always read all of the translations of the text to find the different perspectives, if any. Today is no different; only when I came across this text in Eugene Peterson’s Message Bible, which many scholars call the uninspired version, I chuckled because our brother Eugene hit the ball out of the park on this one.

Enjoy Mr. Peterson’s take on Romans 13:8-10.

Romans 13:8-10 MSG

[8-10] Don’t run up debts, except for the huge debt of love you owe each other. When you love others, you complete what the law has been after all along. The law code-don’t sleep with another person’s spouse, don’t take someone’s life, don’t take what isn’t yours, don’t always be wanting what you don’t have, and any other “don’t” you can think of-finally adds up to this: Love other people as well as you do yourself. You can’t go wrong when you love others. When you add up everything in the law code, the sum total is love.

Let’s pray….

Father, I thank you for the supernatural ability to love people through your filter and through your lens. God please continue to help us learn to love like you. We understand that to love like Jesus is to be like Jesus, so please continue to grow us in this area Lord.

We magnify you’re name forever. Amen.
